Red maple leaf9/9/2023 Norway maples have wide coat-hanger helicopters (top), while sugar maples have horseshoe-shaped ones (bottom). On sugar maples, the helicopter is more of a horseshoe: The samaras (the technical term for the maple’s “helicopters”) have a wide angle on Norway maples (I’ve heard them referred to as “coat-hanger” shaped). In early fall, you can also look for the seeds to tell these two apart. When you pluck a Norway maple leaf where it connects to the tree branch, you’ll see a milky white liquid. On Norway maples, a white, milky fluid will flow out of the spot where the leaf joined up with the tree: One way to tell apart these trees is to pluck a leaf. You’ll need other tricks to separate them. Norway maple (top) and sugar maple (bottom) have similar leaves. Their leaves in particular can look almost identical: Norway and sugar maples can look similar to the untrained eye. When they’re small, red maples tend to have smooth, grayish bark that can sometimes look like American beech:Īs the tree ages, that bark tends to split into vertical plates: Red maples have that, but Norway and sugar maples have smooth-edged leaves.īark is another good indicator for red maple. You can also look at the edges of the leaf for a jagged sawtooth pattern. A red maple leaf often looks like it only has three lobes, while the Norway and sugar maples tend to look like they have five. When we look at Norway and sugar maple leaves coming up, you’ll notice that they have bigger, more distinct bottom lobes than red maple leaves do. Whatever color the leaves are, a good clue to red maple is the rounded base of the leaf. In the fall, look for red again, this time on the leaves: Against a clear blue sky, that red is hard to miss: Red maple is one of the first trees to flower, so in early spring, look for swelling red buds and red flowers. When you want to identify this species, think red. This blog post from MyWoodlot team member Karl VonBerg walks you through how to identify a maple based on its bark and branching. In this post we’ll cover three common maples you might find in your yard or woods and explain tricks you can use to differentiate these seemingly-similar trees.īefore you set out to identify different kinds of maples, make sure you know you’re looking at a maple to begin with. Only certain ones are well-suited for tapping. If Tom’s posts have inspired you to tap some maples yourself, one of the first things you’ll need to know is how to identify different kinds of maple trees. MyWoodlot team member Tom Pavlesich has posted about his experience tapping the maple trees in his backyard and then using the sap to make maple syrup.

Kate walker syberia 3 model face9/9/2023 ![]() ![]() The saving grace besides one spoilerrific character is Mike Pollock, the voice of Dr. Despite the loud character design, Fine doesn’t even try to give her an accent or anything besides her normal speaking voice. Several of the talent picked have clearly never acted before in their life, or their voices just don’t match the character they’re playing, especially with Marcy Fine as the evil doctor Olga Efimova. While Microids has always had trouble with English voice acting, it’s especially bad here for long stretches. The voice acting doesn’t stack up, sadly. Seeing him use Kate and the youkols to explore the ever growing need to conform as the world slowly dies gives the game a darker undercurrent than the previous titles, especially with the threatening antagonists and sights of modern decay. It’s an interesting story, especially if you’ve followed along with Sokal’s past work. The villains even try brainwashing their leader into embracing industrialization and capitalism (I never said the game was subtle). The themes shift focus entirely to a story about the struggle of keeping old cultures alive in an increasingly modern world, with the youkols targets of racist ignorance and scapegoating for simply wanting to continue with their simple way of life. Syberia 3’s story still has all of Sokal’s usual calling cards, even down to some problematic elements (a bit of a white savior thing with Kate and the youkols being cartoonish stereotypes). Also, it’s hinted that said militia might control a giant squid. Kate must escape her old life chasing after her and help her new friends escape the xenophobic forces of the militia. She soon finds some sort of militia is trying to stop the youkols from finishing their sacred snow ostrich migration, and Kate herself is surprised to find a detective from New York after her (the same one from Syberia II). It doesn’t take long for Kate to realize things are very wrong, however, as the doctors interrogate Kate and seem to be doing something strange to a fellow youkol sharing her room. At game’s start, Kate Walker finds herself resting in a hospital, rescued from death by the Youkol tribe that were responsible for all the mammoth shenanigans in the other games. This lead to a lot of instant loss moments before all the patching went through.īut if you can move past all that, Syberia 3 is quite a good follow up to the previous saga. On top of all that, you can no longer save manually, only autosave on one file each for every game played on your copy. The problem can be overcome by restarting the game with lower graphical settings, but it remains a nuisance. Areas with a lot of NPCs, mainly the amusement park and the tunnel, have a habit of getting stuck between in-game graphics cutscenes and gameplay in a sort of fax-freeze. The graphics generally look beautiful, even on low settings (screenshots used are from medium settings), but character facial animations have an uncanny valley look to them the more you can see their mouths, where teeth textures are poorer than the rest of the face and the inner mouth is just a black void. Kate has a habit of getting stuck on objects and walls, probably why the old walking controls are still usable in point and click mode. ![]() All of the game’s most major issues stem from the development cycle it went through, with a complete engine change to Unity with a staff that either seem inexperienced with the technology or not given enough time to work with it properly and fine tune some physics issues. Honestly, it may be the weakest overall of all three games, though not by as much as you’d expect from how its launch went. Syberia 3 did not put its best foot forward. Worse yet, the game ends with a cliffhanger, despite being in development hell with confused priorities for so long, making the likelihood of a Syberia 4 all but nil. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late with many, and the games review scores were average to disastrous. Thankfully, the game has gotten a point and click control scheme patched in, and it basically remakes the entire game into something playable. However, because of the game’s graphical requirements, actually playing the game with those controls was near impossible due to input lag. The controls on the PC version seemed built with a game pad in mind, with more complicated camera angles to get through. The game was toyed with in the concept stage for over a decade, and when we finally get it, with Sokal hired back for writing, the initial version was fundamentally broken. There are few games out there that have gotten releases as bad as Syberia 3‘s.

Rectlabel for object detection9/9/2023 Suppose your project contains a high number of large objects. It’s because their relative IoU is impacted less when they take up a large number of pixels than when they take up a smaller number in medium or small objects. Very large objects also tend to underperform. If an object is usually large, your model will perform worse in cases when the same type of object appears smaller. Variations in box size in your training data should be consistent. Two perfectly overlapping annotations have an IoU of 1.00. IoU tells you much of the total area of an object your predictions tend to cover. On a Raspberry Pi 4 with 8 GB Ram, FPS of around 10 was observed.Callout: Intersection over Union (IoU) is measured as the area of overlap between your model’s prediction and the ground truth, divided by their union. ![]() The model worked fine with the code with modified detection part. The Colab notebook allows you to create a model for Edge TPU i.e. Running the Model with Coral USB Accelerator Observe how the parameters (boxes, class_ids, scores, count) are read differently for pre-trained and custom model in above code. Scores = get_output_tensor(interpreter, 0)īoxes = get_output_tensor(interpreter, 1)Ĭount = int(get_output_tensor(interpreter, 2))Ĭlass_ids = get_output_tensor(interpreter, 3) Scores = get_output_tensor(interpreter, 2)Ĭount = int(get_output_tensor(interpreter, 3)) def detect_objects(interpreter, image, score_threshold=0.3, top_k=6):īoxes = get_output_tensor(interpreter, 0)Ĭlass_ids = get_output_tensor(interpreter, 1) The code snippet performing this task is shown below. So, I modified the detection part of my code to adjust for the order of output details as per the custom model and it worked fine. The arrangement of the information in output details for a pre-trained model and custom model is shown below This order is different for pre-trained models. ![]() I observed that the output details of the tensor are arranged in different order for the model created using Model Maker. So I checked the contents of output details of the tensor by simply printing it. During the initial attempts, the code was throwing an error. These details are stored in the output tensor and can be accessed by interpreter object. Running the model on Raspberry PiĪn object detection model returns four parameters as a result of inference. Please note that the order of labels provided during the training should be maintained while creating the label file. ![]() The label file created for this project is shown below:. I did this because 'tflite_support' library is not used for detection task in my project. However, in my case, I have created a label text file manually. This method does not require a separate label text file and uses the label information embedded in the model as metadata for this purpose. This code makes use of 'tflite_support' library to perform detection. Tensorflow Github page page provides a sample code for running an object detection model on Raspberry Pi. My dataset can be downloaded from this link. In this manner, I created 101 images for training and 15 images for validation. So I added these tags manually as they are required by the DataLoader function while loading the dataset in Colab notebook. The tags ' pose ' and ' truncated ' are not generated by this tool. The corresponding xml file generated by the tool containing the coordinate information of the objects is as shown. A sample image from my dataset with manully created bounding boxes around the objects of interest is shown below:. The tool creates a xml or csv file containing this information. Here, labeling means manually drawing the bounding boxes around an object in the image. This part requires you to take pictures of the objects and label them using a labeling tool. In this article, I will cover the unique aspects related to my project. I derived a notebook from the original notebook. You can save a copy of the original Colab notebook in your Google drive and personlise it by adding or modifying the information in it. These steps are well explained in the colab notebook. The steps involved in the custom model creation are as follows:. Working of this tool is demonstrated by a Colab notebook created by Tensorflow Team member Khanh LeVit. The process of training a custom model has been simplified to a great extent by the Tensorflow team with the introduction of Model Maker tool. ![]() A snapshot of working of the model created for this project is shown below. In this case, you need to train a custom model for your use case. However, in some applications there is a need to detect certain objects which are not present in the pre-trained models. Most of them are trained using COCO dataset and can detect upto 90 types of common objects. For object detection, there are many pre-trained models available for Edge devices such as Raspberry Pi.

And plus two windows of item data.Īnd last - read the info, please. Little spoiler of the very beta interface, still much to do with many other tabs, but for now, the almost finished main tab looks like this. I don't want to release partially made toolbox. So for now main thing what delays release the most - is my perfectionism. As an example - while working on proper camhack I thought about full map reveal and immedietly started working on it. so little is because I easely getting distracted by finding even more functions I may implemend. I'm back to working on a huge remake and big update with many new functions.įor now, I'm at least 60% done with it.

Xamarin studio dark theme9/9/2023 ![]() And there is no way to change the colors of the parts of those controls from Xamarin.Forms, so I could not apply dark theme to them.Ī solution I finally found is when the user selects dark mode, to also change the theme of the corresponding native application. The problem I encountered is that is I set Dark theme ( = OSAppTheme.Dark), and have a black or very dark background, then some controls like ToggleSwitch in off state and the new RadioButton were still painted with dark colors and were not visible. I started using AppThemeBinding in one of my apps, and also decided to add settings to allow the user to force Dark or Light mode, just like in the example. If you want to go even further than dark and light themes, then check out using dynamic resources and even loading themes at runtime to theme your applications. As shown previously, it even works with the new Shapes and Paths introduced in Xamarin.Forms 4.7 too!įor more information on app themes, check out the system theme changes documentation. ![]() This works not only for colors, but images and other resources as well. This new dark and light mode theme helper, AppThemeBinding along with UserAppTheme make it really easy to handle theme modes in your Xamarin.Forms apps. The code above handles toggling between dark and light according to the user’s preference in the app, and then switching between user preference and OS theme preference. Private bool _useDeviceThemeSettings = true Īpp.Current.UserAppTheme = OSAppTheme.Unspecified UseDarkMode = UseDeviceThemeSettings = false Īpp.Current.UserAppTheme = OSAppTheme.Light UseLightMode = UseDeviceThemeSettings = false Īpp.Current.UserAppTheme = OSAppTheme.Dark Then add the public properties to the BindingContext for the page, in this case the page handles its own state. Now create the above experience, add three checkboxes to your UI for default, dark, and light. Then, to reset the app to respond automatically to OS theme changes, you can set it back to “Unspecified”: = OSAppTheme.Unspecified To do this, you need only to provide a way to set the like this: = OSAppTheme.Dark Sometime you may want to give the app user control over the theme instead of relying on the OS theme. You can of course refactor these to styles like this: Īnd if you wish to use predefined color styles, it might look like this: #1d1d1d Updating just the header, this looks like: ![]() First enable this preview feature by adding the flag to your : public App()ĭevice.SetFlags(new string) To now control the colors for the dark and light of the head and text, you can replace the static colors with an AppThemeBinding that will react at runtime to the OS theme settings. Contrast that with the header which remains blue and the header text that remains white. When you toggle the iOS simulator between dark and light modes (CMD+SHFT+A) you can see the ContentPage background shift from white to black, and the text from black to white. For example, look at how this new “Blank App” template looks on iOS: When you set no styles or colors, your UI will default to the theme native to the platform the app runs on. Why stop there? You can also customize the light and dark colors used throughout your app UI, and even give the user a choice to control their own app theme. In fact, if you do nothing at all, your Xamarin.Forms apps will respect the user’s OS preference. All major OSes now support dark and light app themes, and Xamarin.Forms 4.7 has arrived to make this easy to add to your applications.

![]() If pounds and inches are used, a conversion factor of 703 (kg/m 2)/(lb/in 2) is applied. The BMI is expressed in kg/m 2, resulting from mass in kilograms and height in metres. Additional metrics, such as waist circumference, can be more useful. Nevertheless, due to its simplicity, it has come to be widely used for preliminary diagnoses. Keys explicitly judged BMI as appropriate for population studies and inappropriate for individual evaluation. The interest in an index that measures body fat came with observed increasing obesity in prosperous Western societies. In this paper, Keys argued that what he termed the BMI was "if not fully satisfactory, at least as good as any other relative weight index as an indicator of relative obesity". The modern term "body mass index" (BMI) for the ratio of human body weight to squared height was coined in a paper published in the July 1972 edition of the Journal of Chronic Diseases by Ancel Keys and others. According to Lars Grue and Arvid Heiberg in the Scandinavian Journal of Disability Research, Quetelet's idealization of the average man would be elaborated upon by Francis Galton a decade later in the development of Eugenics. Quetelet thought of the average man as a social ideal, and developed the body mass index as a means of discovering the socially ideal human person. Instead, it was a component of his study of l'homme moyen, or the average man. Quetelet himself never intended for the index, then called the Quetelet Index, to be used as a means of medical assessment. Īdolphe Quetelet, a Belgian astronomer, mathematician, statistician, and sociologist, devised the basis of the BMI between 18 as he developed what he called "social physics". When used to predict an individual's health, rather than as a statistical measurement for groups, the BMI has limitations that can make it less useful than some of the alternatives, especially when applied to individuals with abdominal obesity, short stature, or unusually high muscle mass.īMIs under 20 and over 25 have been associated with higher all-cause mortality, with the risk increasing with distance from the 20–25 range. ![]() Major adult BMI classifications are underweight (under 18.5 kg/m 2), normal weight (18.5 to 24.9), overweight (25 to 29.9), and obese (30 or more). The BMI is a convenient rule of thumb used to broadly categorize a person as underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese based on tissue mass ( muscle, fat, and bone) and height. The BMI may be determined using a table or chart which displays BMI as a function of mass and height using contour lines or colours for different BMI categories, and which may use other units of measurement (converted to metric units for the calculation). The BMI is defined as the body mass divided by the square of the body height, and is expressed in units of kg/m 2, resulting from mass in kilograms and height in metres. Body mass index ( BMI) is a value derived from the mass ( weight) and height of a person.

Her recent book, On Privilege, Fraudulence, and Teaching As Learning: Selected Essays 1981-2019, is a collection of her essays published over her career. McIntosh encourages individuals to reflect on and recognize their own unearned advantages and disadvantages as parts of immense and overlapping systems of power. Both papers rely on personal examples of unearned advantage that McIntosh says she experienced in her lifetime, especially from 1970 to 1988. In 1988, she published the article "White Privilege and Male Privilege: A Personal Account of Coming to See Correspondences Through Work in Women’s Studies". She has written on curricular revision, feelings of fraudulence, hierarchies in education and society, and professional development of teachers.
