Lightkey fail to update9/8/2023 The computer seems to start running slow with a spinning beach ball being more prevalent. So clearing out the nvram clears this setting? I am then thinking that the install programs don't see trust this computer and doesn't allow installs? I remember that before I could log into Apple Support I had to indicate that I trust this computer. I mentioned in the previous post about being able to install after posting here. Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support Please click the link, download and run the app and then post the complete report it produces as your reply to this message. Please post an EtreCheck report of your system and we can look for any obvious issues. If the problem still persists then do the following: So back to your original issue, what I'd suggest is first do a NVRAM reset first and then restarting in Safe Mode and then test your system. However a virus simply is not the problem. Slow downs can be caused by using outdated apps, installing other malware, using crapware, hardware issues, etc. You mentioned your computer slowed down, well that can be caused by many different things, a virus being the last possibility. My original post still stands, DO NOT use any antivirus, cleaning or any third party "maintenance" apps. In short, using a bit of common sense will keep a Mac totally safe by knowing what you are installing. Users also will install adware, some of which can cause problems for Mac OS. They can come in the form of downloading from a site that should not be trusted, installing something from a popup, phone call, or e-mail that says the computer is infected (all SCAMS) or using a torrent to download software. Macs can get other malware however and this is a BIG however that malware has to be installed by the user. A MS Windows virus cannot affect a Mac in any way. This in no way affects Mac OS however if passed on to a MS Windows box that isn't protected then it could be an issue for the Windows user. Another common error is somehow a user gets a MS Windows virus (from an e-mail for example) on their Mac. They may have been mistaken and call other malware ( a trojan for example) a virus, this is a common issue. If you can name one you will be the first person ever. Whoever said your iMac had viruses is 100% wrong as none exist for Mac OS. Regardless, the 3 TB hard drives in iMacs are problematic and most definitely the cause of your problem. But that program has now expired and technically didn't apply to your machine anyway. At one point, Apple had a recall program for them. You will have to take the machine to an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service provider. The hard drives in an iMac are not user-serviceable parts. However, none of that is going to help your immediate problem. In some cases, you may need to reinstall the software (the exact same version you had) and then use the proper uninstallation method. Never try to manually delete files in hidden directories. You must use a vendor-provided uninstaller or uninstallation instructions. Any software that shows up on an EtreCheck report cannot be deleted by merely dragging it to the trash. That seems to be slowing down your system by about 10%. I guess the difference can be attributed to your partial install of Sophos that is constantly crashing. But your machine actually runs faster in Safe Mode. Normally, a machine will run much more slowly in Safe Mode. You have some flaky open-source software, but that is nothing unusual. First of all, you don't have any malware.
